CPS Teacher Housing: Home Buying

Qualified CPS teachers can now receive up to $3,000 in homebuyer assistance through the Teacher Homebuyer Assistance Program (THAP)!

The assistance is:

An interest-free forgivable loan released upon completion of five years of teaching service with CPS
$3,000 to purchase/live in the City
Mortgage must originate with a CPS Teacher Housing Lender Partner. Click here to review a list of THAP partner lenders.

Eligibility Requirements:

A highly-qualified CPS teacher employed by the Chicago Board of Education
Teacher must have received a proficient, superior, or excellent rating in last evaluation
Committed to teach an additional 5 years at CPS
A first time homebuyer in Chicago
Five year owner occupancy required
Complete a homebuyer education class with a HUD certified housing counseling agency
